Hiring managers aren’t going to read your case study. They want to see how well you design. You deserve to see your portfolio the way they see it, and the same three problems account for most of what they find.

Path
The hiring managers in the Portfolio Workshop have reviewed more than 2,000 portfolios. Nine in ten had simple mistakes that made them move on to the next one.

- See it
Run your real portfolio through the Shift Nudge AI portfolio crit on day one and get the weak points named on the spot. - 02
- Know why
The 16 principles in the interface design training give you the reason each one holds the work back, so you are fixing the cause. - 03
- Fix it
The Portfolio Workshop, the panels, and 1,000+ recorded critiques show you what fixed actually looks like.
Portfolios fail for predictable reasons, and predictable mistakes are fixable. Across years of portfolio critiques, the same three surface more than any others. Work hidden too small to see. Too much text. No system holding it together. The training shows the fix for each.
Session 1 - MDS Method
Map, decide, structure. Get clear on the role you want, choose which projects earn a place, then plan the images. The container comes last, because a site built before the work is ready is three weeks spent landing back where you started. Images first, everything else second.

Session 2 - Hiring Manager Panel
Three industry experts who hire designers, and your portfolio is where they start. Noah Stokes led design at Dribbble and WeightWatchers. Nad Chishtie built the design team at Lovable from founding designer to $100M in revenue. Helena Zhang ran design at Medium and hand drew Phosphor, one of the most popular icon sets of all time. They put a number on the first impression, name the element that gives craft away before a viewer reads a word, and say what sends a portfolio to the no pile.
Session 3 - Designer Panel
Three designers who got the role, none through the front door. Amy Lima coded her own portfolio and it carried her from a layoff to Figma. Caden Damiano, in the first Shift Nudge cohort back in 2020, spent years building relationships and had a role written for him. Blake Shae Kos runs her portfolio as one channel among several. Different paths, same conclusion about what the work has to do before anyone will talk to you.
Session 4 - Portfolio Reviews
Watch as MDS reviews portfolios live. Each gets ten seconds for an initial gut call, then a full breakdown of what drove it. The same problems keep surfacing, and they’re all learnable and avoidable.
Inside
The Portfolio Workshop is the career layer of the membership. The images are only as strong as the work inside them, so the interface design curriculum trains the craft that makes each screen worth showing, and its exercises build into complete projects you own. This is all one Shift Nudge membership, with a VIP path that adds weekly live critiques with MDS.
